New York Red Bulls II fell to the Charlotte Independence 2-0 on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena. Red Bulls II fought hard for a comeback, but could not cancel out the Independence's two first half goals. The result is New York's first loss of the season and brings both their five-game unbeaten run and their 418-minute shutout streak to an end.

Gideon Baah, who was loaned to Red Bulls II to regain his match fitness after suffering a hamstring injury earlier this season, started and played 45 minutes in the match.

Red Bulls II's first chance came when forward Anatole Abang sent a pass through the middle for midfielder Alex Muyl in the 10th minute, but Charlotte goalkeeper Cody Mizell collected it at the top of the box before Muyl could arrive.

Charlotte's first goal came in the 13th minute, when Caleb Calvert flicked a cross from Brown on the left to Enzo Martinez who buried it in the left corner.

In the 33rd minute, Charlotte logged their second goal after New York failed to clear a deflected shot that fell to defender Patrick Slogic inside the box.

New York had their best chance to get on the board in the 44th minute when a point-blank save on forward Brandon Allen rebounded to Muyl, who sent the ball just over the crossbar.

New York almost got one back in the 87th minute when defender Justin Bilyeu put in a ball from outside the 18-yard box that Mizell needed to tip over the bar.
